Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a major urban redevelopment project to transform 19 hectares of encroached land at Kachipura, Nagpur, into a modern commercial hub modelled after Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).
The site, owned by Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV), currently houses informal settlements and small businesses. Under the project, around 800 displaced families will receive alternative housing, while commercial occupants such as restaurants will be allotted space at affordable rates. Planned under the design, build, finance, operate, and sale (DBFOS) model, the development will feature advanced infrastructure, green zones, sporting arenas, and leisure spaces.
The Union Minister has directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to revise land use plans to accommodate the new township. The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation and NMC have begun surveys and design planning. The project aims to balance urban expansion with social rehabilitation, enhancing Nagpur’s economic and civic landscape.
