Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid the foundation of 14 national highway projects in Telangana on 21 December 2020. These projects include 765.663 km long roads worth Rs 13,169 crore.
The projects dedicated to the nation were – four-laning of Yadgiri-Warangal Section of NH-163 (Old No 202) from 54.00 km to 150.00 km under NHDP Phase-IV executed under EPC mode (length – 99 km) worth Rs 1,890 crore; rehabilitation and upgradation to two lane with paved shoulders from km 0.0 km to 72.6 km of NH-365 (Nakrekal to Thanamcherla section) under NHDP-IV on EPC basis in Suryapet and Nalgonda district worth Rs 605.08 crore; rehabilitation and upgradation of Hyderabad Outer Ring Road to Medak Section of NH-765D from the existing 15.970 km (design 0.0 km) to the existing 78.70 km (design 62.92 km) to two lane with paved shoulder/four lane on EPC mode worth Rs 426.52 crore.
He also inaugurated the widening to two lane with paved shoulders from 59.500 km to 132.033 km of Manneguda-Ravulapally section of NH-163, Vikarabad and Narayanpet district worth Rs 359.27 crore; widening and strengthening of the existing two lane to two lane with paved shoulders from 159.0 km to 165.4 km and 186.0 km 215.0 km Atmakur to Pasra section of NH-163 worth Rs 230.03 crore; widening and strengthening of the existing carriageway in two lane with paved shoulders from 25.0 km 59.2 km (design ch 25.467 km to 59.200 km) Mahadevpur to Bhupalpally section of NH-353C worth Rs 206.13 crore.
The Minister laid the foundation stone for four-laning of the Suryapet (design ch 0.420/existing 128.500 km of NH-65) to Khammam (design ch 59.046/ existing 50.750 km of old SH-42) of NH-365BB (old SH-42) (design length - 58.626 km) worth Rs 2,054.29 crore; four-laning of NH-363 from Mancherial (design 00.000 km /existing 251.900 km) to Repallewada (design 42.000 km/ existing 288.510 km (length - 42.00 km) worth Rs 1,556.12 crore; four-laning of NH-161 from Ramsanpalle village (design 39.980 km/existing 44.757 km) to Mangloor village (design 86.788 km/ existing 91.350 km) (design length - 46.808 km) Package-II worth Rs 1,551.27 crore.
The foundation stones were also laid for four-laning of NH-161 from Kandi (design 0.000 km) (498.250 km of NH-65) to Ramsanpalle (design 39.980 km/ existing 44.757 km) Package-I worth Rs 1,304.58 crore; four-laning of the stretch from Mangloor (design 86.788 km/ existing km 91.350) to Telangana/Maharashtra Border (design 135.751 km/existing 140.500 km) Package – III worth Rs 1,247.52 crore; four-laning of NH-363 from Repallewada (design 42.000 km/ existing 288.510 km) to Telangana/Maharashtra Border (design 94.602 km/existing 342.000 km) worth Rs 1,226.85 crore; balance works of rehabilitation and upgradation of Nakrekal to Nagarjunasagar section of NH-565 to 2L+PS/4L from 1.000 km to 86.057 km under NH(O) for the year 2020-21 in Nalgonda district worth Rs 369.91 crore; and widening and strengthening of the existing intermediate lane/two lane to two lane with paved shoulders from 678.555 km to 699.655 km of Nirmal to Khanapur section of NH-61 extended in Nirmal district worth Rs 141.80 crore.
A total of 59 road works with approved length of 1,918 km and cost of Rs 17,617 crore have been sanctioned in the state in the last six years. Of this, 1,782 km length has already been sanctioned with a cost of Rs 15,689 crore.
Almost all of the 33 districts in the state have connectivity with national highways. The remaining district Peddapally will also be connected to the network soon. Nearly 1,400 km NH length has been added in the last six years in the state. Under CRIF scheme, a sum of Rs 2,436 crore has been sanctioned till now for the state, of which Rs 1,483 crore have already been released.
Construction of 841 km roads worth Rs 4,793 crore has been completed since 2014-15 in Telangana, and work is going on for construction of another 809 km at a cost of Rs 13,012 crore.
In FY21, 13 major projects costing Rs 8,957 crore of length 328 km are proposed to be awarded in the state. Three major projects for 192 km worth Rs 2,339 crore are under bidding. Another 21 NH works with total length of 1,422 km and total cost of Rs 27,116 crore are under various stages of DPR preparation. These works are likely to be completed by FY25.
Projects with length 1,730 km have been identified for development under Bharatmala Pariyojana in the state. Out of these 14 projects, nine projects with length 423 km have already been awarded at a cost of Rs 7,400 crore.
Development of greenfield and access-controlled corridor has also been planned in the state to easeout traffic on the existing corridors, reduce travel time and costs and also provide a boost to the economy. These include Surat, Ahmadnagar, Solapur, Kurnool, Chennai (75 km length in the state); Suryapet-Khammam-Devarapalle (164 km length in state), Indore-Hyderabad (136 km length in state).
