Close to 220 minor irrigation ponds will be restored in SPSR Nellore district at an estimated cost of Rs 355.19 crore, with about 26,928 hectares of land set to be developed under the repair, renovation, restoration (RRR) of water bodies scheme.
District Collector O Anand, addressing a district-level Implementation and Monitoring Committee meeting at the Collectorate on 03 September, 2025, stressed the importance of timely action. He urged officials to take proactive steps in executing the scheme to strengthen district water resources.
The RRR initiative, a flagship component of the Central government’s Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), falls under the ‘Har Khet Ko Pani’ (HKKP) programme. It aims to revive traditional water bodies and enhance irrigation capacity, ensuring water security for agriculture. By reviving ponds and canals, the project will boost groundwater recharge, reduce dependency on monsoon rainfall, and support farmers with assured irrigation coverage.
