A major infrastructure project aims to improve inter-state connectivity with a new road linking Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh to Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh, reducing travel distance by eight km.
The centerpiece is a 10-km greenfield route from Pather village (Saharanpur) to Saundhebaans on the Haryana border, merging with the existing Yamunanagar–Paonta Sahib road. With a Rs 45.80 crore budget, the seven-mtrs.-wide road will significantly benefit residents of Chilkana and nearby areas. Additionally, a bridge across the Yamuna near Alhanpur and a 12-km road from Sadhauli (Nakur) to Jathlana (Haryana) are in the pipeline, further strengthening the regional network. Travel to Paonta Sahib via the current 75-km route will drop to 67 km.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has finalised proposals and is awaiting approvals. “We’re ready to start construction as soon as land acquisition and permissions are completed,” said PWD Executive Engineer R.K. Singh. Once completed, the project promises time savings, smoother travel, and enhanced economic and logistical links across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.
This initiative forms part of a larger regional development strategy. A key element of the plan is a proposed 12-km road connecting Sadhauli village in Nakur to Jathlana in Yamunanagar district. Estimated at approx. Rs 118 crore, the project will also benefit from an expedited land acquisition process, facilitated by agreements with local farmers who will receive compensation at four times the circle rate.
