Government of
Tamil Nadu is investing Rs.100 crore in setting up three fishing harbours in
the state at Thengaipattinam, Poompuhar and Muttom. The project is to be funded
by loans from financial institutions and assistance from Centre. The government
is also planning to upgrade Chennai and Tuticorin harbours at a cost of Rs.6
crore. Expansion is being planned at Chinamuttam and Mallipatinam harbours with
an investment of Rs.17.5 crore.
