NPCIL on 17 October 2010 signed the resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R)
agreement with the Maharashtra Government for the proposed 10,000 MWe (6x1,650
MWe) project at Jaitapur in the Ratnagiri district. The R&R package entails an
investment of over Rs 650 crore.
Phase I of the project is likely to be completed by 2016-17. The entire Rs
13,000-crore project is expected to be commissioned by 2024-25. NPCIL expects to
ink an early works agreement with Areva by end-December 2010 for supply of two
reactors of 1,650 MWe each.
