Cairn India is planning to further explore the Ravva oil field, located off
the Andhra coast, within the Krishna-Godavari basin block. The company is of the
view that the field has enough hydrocarbon reserves (oil and gas) to explore.
The company is likely to take up 4 dimensional (4D) seismic survey in
December 2009 to explore further the Ravva oil field. Later, it may call for an
international bid to select partners. The survey is estimated to cost around
$25-$30 million (approx Rs 115-138 crore).
It has been envisaged that 4D seismic could lead to the identification of
fluid fronts, by-passed oil and also help optimise ongoing reservoir management
efforts. According to a study conducted recently, 4D seismic monitoring over the
Ravva field is deemed to be achievable and will yield quantifiable results. The
survey will be conducted over an area of 280 sq km, which covers Ravva oil and
gas field.
