The Union Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways is planning to
improve 7,305 kms of national highways (NH) during 2010-11 fiscal year with
investment of Rs 24,455 crore.
Of the total planned investment, NHAI is likely to raise Rs 7,455 crore from
internal and external budgetary resources for the massive NH development work
apart from Rs 17,000 crore budgetary support.
However, the assistance from the agencies like the World Bank (WB) and the
Asian Development Bank (ADB) is likely to fall. According to sources, the WB and
ADB is likely to provide Rs 1,916 crore for road projects during the next
fiscal, down from Rs 3,507 crore during the previous financial year. About Rs
861 crore is estimated to come from WB and the remaining Rs 1,055 crore from ADB.
