The CCI on April 2010 approved transfer of 22 roads of 1,119 km length from
Phase 'B' to Phase 'A' of Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in
North East (SARDP-NE) and inclusion of six additional state roads to Phase 'A'
of SARDP-NE.
Thus improvement/construction of 28 roads will be under Phase 'A' of SARDP-NE
at an estimated cost of Rs 6,866 crore which is to be met from SARDP-NE funding.
Further, the CCI also approved addition of one road from Shankshak (near
Finch corner on NH-150) to Tengnoupal on NH-39 to Phase 'B' of SARDP-NE and to
modify the scope of Phase 'B' of SARDP-NE to cover preparation of DPR for 35
roads of 3,723 km length.
The improvement/ construction of roads will provide improved connectivity to
21 additional District Headquarter towns. Some of the improved roads would also
facilitate mining of uranium in Meghalaya.
These works are to be completed by March 2014.
