Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor and Development Corporation (DMICDC) on 30
April 2010 signed four MoUs with six Japanese consultants to build eco
cities in the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) region.
The consultants include Japanese majors such as Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and
Hitachi, Itochu among others who would be involved in building ‘eco cities' in
the DMIC region.
Under the four MoUs, the Japanese consultants are likely to launch
feasibility studies to set up the first set of eco cities in Manesar-Bawal
(Haryana), Dahej and Changodar (Gujarat) and Shendra (Maharashtra).
The Hitachi-led conglomerate is likely to build a solar power plant in Dahej.
The Toshiba-led combine is to build an energy supply network combining
electricity and gas in Manesar. While in Shendra, the consortium led by JGC is
to build a next-generation electricity distribution network utilising its
storage battery technology, the fourth group, led by Mitsubishi Heavy, will
build a system to generate electricity using natural gas near Changodar.
The DMIC running through Haryana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat,
Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, is being developed in collaboration with the Japan
Government as a global manufacturing and trading hub. The Phase I of the project
is expected to be completed by 2018.
