Ashok Leyland has chalked out investment plans worth Rs 2,000 crore to be
implemented by 2012. Of the total, the company's planned capex is likely to be
Rs 1,200 crore and it plans to invest about Rs 800 crore in JVs.
The first batch of light commercial vehicle products as part of its JV with
Nissan Motor Company is likely to hit the roads by early 2011.
Its other JV with John Deere for the construction equipment business is also
on schedule with pilot production set to commence at its new manufacturing
facility at Goomdipoondi in Tamil Nadu from October 2010 and products are set to
roll out by early 2011.
Meanwhile, the company's new chassis and bus assembly plant at Ras Al Khaimah,
UAE, has already begun production and, at full capacity, can roll out 2,000
buses. The plant is to cater to the neighbouring Gulf Co-operation Council and
African markets.
