Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on 24 July, 2025 launched projects worth Rs 21,406.36 crore under the Rural Works Department (RWD), aimed at significantly enhancing rural connectivity across the state. The projects include the construction of 11,346 roads and 730 small bridges.
During a virtual event held at his official residence, the CM inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple infrastructure initiatives. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, “Under the Rural Roads Strengthening and Management Programme, a new component, Mukhyamantri Gramin Sadak Unnayan Yojana, was launched in 2024.” Under this scheme, construction began on 5,047 roads (8,893 km) at an approved cost of Rs 6,198 crore, and foundation stones were laid for 4,079 roads (6,484 km) costing Rs 5,627 crore.
In addition, the Mukhyamantri Gramin Setu Yojana, a revived version of the earlier Mukhyamantri Setu Yojana, focuses on building missing bridges and access roads. Work commenced on 409 bridges with an approved cost of Rs 1,859 crore, and foundation stomes were laid for 295 bridges valued at Rs 1,792 crore. Additional schemes worth Rs 327 crore were also initiated. RWD Additional Chief Secretary Dipak Kumar Singh presented project details during the event.
