The Union Government and the Central Water Commission (CWC) have given
in-principle approval for the Rs 40,300-crore mega Pranahitha Sujala Sravanthi
irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh.
The project is aimed at bringing about 16,40,000 acre under cultivation with
seven crucial linkages. The project envisages diversion of 160 thousand million
cubic ft (tmcf) of water from river Pranahitha, aimed at covering seven
districts in the state. It will have a conveyor system of about 1,055 km
involving lifting of water to up to 1,343 mtrs involving 19 lift systems.
