The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has given in-principle approval to a ‘new city development’ plan aimed at creating a modern and inclusive urban hub within the Bhubaneswar Development Plan Area (BDPA).
Spread across 800 acres in Gothapatna, Malipada and Daspur, the project envisages a total investment of Rs 8,179 crore over 15 years, with an initial Rs 1,342 crore earmarked for 2025-30. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said a milestone was reached with the signing of an MoU between Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Singapore-based Surbana Jurong Infrastructure, witnessed by Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
SJI will provide consultancy and advisory services for master planning and infrastructure development. Aligned with the state’s long-term vision ‘Viksit Odisha 2036’, the township will feature MICE facilities, plugand-play hubs, data centres, affordable housing, green infrastructure, forest parks and integrated transport. Designed as a multi-economic growth zone, it aims at sustainability, inclusivity and community engagement, with BDA as nodal agency.
