The Odisha government is preparing to introduce Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, aiming for at least 50 percent battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in all new vehicle registrations by 2036. This target is part of the broader Odisha Vision 2036, which also includes 50 percent adoption of electric and alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs).
On 25 June, 2025, the Commerce, Transport, and Energy departments conducted a high-level brainstorming session to finalise proposals for the revised policy. The focus is on accelerating Odisha’s electric mobility transition through enhanced incentives for EV buyers and charge-point operators (CPOs). The upcoming policy will promote green mobility, reduce carbon emissions and transform the state into a model EV ecosystem in the country.”
Key measures discussed include incentivising CPOs from the state budget on a first-come-first-serve basis, creating a dedicated EV fund by leveraging internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle revenue, and expanding public charging stations. The state will also tap into the PM e-DRIVE scheme to support adoption.
