India's energy exploration efforts are set for a major boost as the government intensifies oil and gas exploration across seven sedimentary basins, utilising advanced technology, according to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
The Minister highlighted the launch of Mission Anveshan, one of India's largest seismic mapping initiatives, which aims to survey 20,000 ground line km (GLK), with over 8,000 GLK already completed since its inception in October 2024. The program, backed by a Rs 792 crore investment, is designed to accelerate the search for oil and gas reserves across the country, including areas like Rajasthan's desert sands and the deep waters of the Krishna-Godavari Basin.
The government has also cleared 99 percent of restricted areas, opening one million sq. km of offshore territory for exploration. With new reforms in place, the Open Acreage Licensing Programme (OALP) Round X is expected to attract global and domestic investors, aiming to reshape India's energy future.
