The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the construction of an open model flyover at Ranasthalam in Srikakulam district, a decision that is set to alleviate the travel difficulties of locals.
Although the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had previously constructed a six-lane road from Ichchapuram to Etcherla, the flyover had been delayed due to opposition from local traders who feared a disruption to business, as well as resistance from farmers who demanded high compensation for land acquisition. Vizianagaram MP Kalisetti Appala Naidu played a key role in resolving the issue by facilitating talks with NHAI in New Delhi. He explained, “People can move easily from one side to the other in the open model flyover.”
The project, which includes road expansion on both sides of the flyover, is expected to cost Rs 250 crore and be completed by the end of 2026.
