The government has given PFC (the
nodal agency for ultra mega power projects), the permission to form a shell
company for transmission projects. The company formed will be on the lines of
the five companies created by PFC for the coal-based power projects of 4,000 MW
each.
There will be only one shell company
for all transmission projects and will be developed through competitive bidding
route. The projects that the proposed company will take up may or may not relate
to the transmission network of ultra mega power projects.
The power ministry and Power Grid
Corporation of India, the central transmission utility, has already started
preliminary work on the transmission requirement for evacuating electricity from
the ultra mega projects.
