Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the final stretch of Phase II of the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro on January 11, completing a crucial transport link between the two cities.
The new 7.8 km section, from Sector 10A to Mahatma Mandir, adds seven stations, improving Metro accessibility across key residential and administrative zones. With this extension, commuters can now travel seamlessly along the entire 28 km corridor from Motera in Ahmedabad to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi flagged off the service from Mahatma Mandir Metro Station, accompanied by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
The expanded network will benefit residents of nearly 20 sectors in Gandhinagar and offer direct connectivity to around 60 government offices, reducing reliance on private vehicles. The Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro, launched in phases since 2022, has seen a rise in ridership, now averaging 1.6 lakh commuters daily.
