The final leg of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), connecting Mumbai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) to Dadri, is in the last stages of completion.
The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) confirmed that the entire WDFC is expected to be operational by 31 March, 2026. A key milestone in the project is the 102-km JNPT-Vaitarna section, which is the critical link for the WDFC. This section, currently nearing completion, aims to boost freight movement between JNPT and northern India, covering areas like the National Capital Region, Haryana, and Punjab.
The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), spanning 1,337 km, has already been fully commissioned, while 1,404 km of the WDFC is operational as of December 2025. “The full WDFC service will be operational before March 31, 2026,” a senior official noted. Meanwhile, DFCCIL is also planning three more freight corridors, with a focus on the East Coast project.
