Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently confirmed that four bridges over the Brahmaputra River are under construction, with the highly anticipated Guwahati–North Guwahati bridge nearing completion.
The bridge is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, a 32 km project, on 17 or 18 January. The project, valued at Rs 6,957 crore, aims to enhance wildlife-friendly connectivity and boost tourism in the region. Sarma also highlighted the approval of a twin-tube underwater tunnel linking Gohpur to Numaligarh, a road-cum-rail project costing Rs 22,000 crore. This tunnel is expected to improve access between the two areas.
Further infrastructure developments will include an elevated corridor near the Guwahati airport, a 68-acre Aerocity, and a new modern hospital at Guwahati Medical College, supported by a Rs 2,200 crore investment from the Asian Development Bank. Energy projects, including the 120 MW Kopili hydro project, will also be inaugurated soon.
