The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated a major infrastructure upgrade plan for the road running along Metro Line 3—from Maan (depot) in Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar.
The project aims to transform the 50-km stretch (25 km in each direction) into a durable cement-concrete (CC) road, complete with enhanced road-related infrastructure and public amenities. The plan includes parking lanes, bus bays, lay-bys, medians, utility ducts, pedestrian infrastructure, and beautification elements. Utility relocation and electrification work will be part of the development.
According to Umesh Mallawat, Executive Engineer at PMRDA, tenders have been floated to appoint consultants responsible for preparing the detailed project report (DPR), managing the bid process, designing the layout, supervising construction, and offering post-construction support.
The existing Metro Line 3 contractor will first make the stretch motorable before full-fledged road work begins. The initiative seeks to improve surface-level mobility along the elevated metro corridor and manage rising traffic demands. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for 24 July, 2025.
The consultant will conduct detailed surveys, drainage planning, and inter-agency utility coordination. The four-month design phase is expected to significantly enhance last-mile connectivity and commuter convenience.
