The Bangalore Development Authority’s Peripheral Ring Road project (PRR) in Bengaluru has been delayed due to land acquisition problems. The project is hanging in fire for the last seven years.
The BDA has been strong opposition from land owners. Therefore, the BDA decided to commence work on the land already available with the state government. But there, too, they were not allowed to work.
The proposed PRR envisages to ease congestion in the city and to set up truck bays circumnavigating the Outer Ring Road. The project conceived in 2004 envisages acquisition of about 3,619 acre. The estimated cost was Rs 3,000 crore and the land acquisition was estimated to cost Rs 600 crore. The Phase I of the PRR stretching 65 km linking Tumkur Road to Hosur Road via Bellary Road, Old Madras Road and Sarjapur Road. The second phase is about 51 km connecting Bangalore South to the West.
