Construction work on Phase I of
Pilkington Automotive's glass and glazing unit at Atchuthapuram special economic
zone in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh is likely to go on stream in
November 2008.
The first phase of the plant with
capacity to produce 5 lakh vehicle windscreens is being developed at a cost of
Rs 80 crore. The second phase and the third phase, which are still in the
planning stage, will entail an investment of Rs.120 crore and Rs.500 crore
respectively.
The company has already acquired 13
acres (Phase I) and 12 acres (Phase II) and around 71 acres (Phase III) is
likely to be acquired for the development of the proposed project.
