Plans to develop a 'Fourth Mumbai' in Maharashtra’s Palghar district have gained momentum, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announcing key infrastructure initiatives during an event this week. The upcoming Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project may pass through the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), while the government is also exploring the extension of the Mumbai Coastal Road to the proposed Vadhavan Port.
“This area will host India’s largest port and a new international airport, for which green light has already been given by the Prime Minister. Plans are also in motion to extend the bullet train and coastal road up to this region,” the CM stated. The state government aims to begin work on Mumbai’s third international airport—near the Vadhavan Port—within the next four to five years.
The integrated development plan is set to boost regional growth, ease congestion in Mumbai, and strengthen connectivity across Maharashtra and neighbouring states.
