Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has acquired two major transmission projects worth Rs 3,375 crore to enhance the country’s power transfer capacity and grid reliability.
The projects — Vindhyachal Varanasi Transmission and SR WR Power Transmission, were secured through tariff-based competitive bidding. Vindhyachal Varanasi Transmission, acquired from PFC Consulting, involves setting up a 765 kV substation at Prayagraj and transmission lines through Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. SR WR Power Transmission, acquired from REC Power Development & Consultancy, includes a 765 kV line between Karnataka and Maharashtra to strengthen inter-regional connectivity and integrate renewable energy from the southern region, especially Bidar PS.
As of September 30, POWERGRID operates 286 substations and over 1,80,864 circuit km of lines with 5,81,831 MVA capacity, maintaining system availability above 99.80 percent through advanced digital tools and automation.
