The National Water Development Agency (NWDA) has made significant progress on the 30 identified river link projects under the National Perspective Plan (NPP).

Pre-Feasibility Reports (PFRs) for all 30 links, Feasibility Reports (FRs) for 26 links, and detailed project reports (DPRs) for 13 links have been completed. The Godavari (Polavaram)–Krishna (Vijayawada) link, now under the Polavaram Project Authority, has already established water connectivity. Five links have been designated as priority projects, including the Ken–Betwa Link Project (KBLP), Modified Parbati–Kalisindh–Chambal (PKC) Link Project, and the Godavari–Cauvery Link Project with its three sub-links.

The Ken–Betwa project, with an estimated cost of Rs 44,605 crore and central support of Rs 39,317 crore, is the only priority project currently under implementation, focusing on land acquisition, rehabilitation, and environmental management, with the Daudhan Dam work already awarded. “The Ken–Betwa Link Project is progressing steadily, with completion targeted by 2030,” an official said. Preparations for DPRs and technical feasibility studies are underway for other priority links, ensuring systematic progress.
