Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Pune MP, Muralidhar Mohol, has announced that the Pune Metro will be directly connected to the Pune International Airport. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been tasked with preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed metro extension.
The Minister made the announcement following a meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee (AAC). The new metro link will be an extension of the existing Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar-Kharadi corridor, running from Kharadi to Pune Airport. Mohol also emphasised the development of Kharadi into an Interchangeable and Multimodal Transport Hub due to its rapid commercial and residential growth.
According to Mohol, once the airport metro link is completed, all four existing metro lines - Nigdi to Swargate, Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, Vanaz to Ramwadi, and the new route from Kharadi, will be interconnected with Lohegaon Airport. This will ensure seamless airport access from Pimpri-Chinchwad and other parts of the Pune district. The planning process is already underway, with PMC expected to fund the DPR while Maha Metro executes the preparation.
