Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on 30 November, 2025, announced a road construction project worth Rs 16,209 crore, aimed at laying 44,920 km of roads across the state within the next year.
The initiative follows a thorough survey to assess road conditions and prioritize repairs, widening, and upgrades. As part of the plan, all roads, including those in villages, towns, and cities, will be built with a five-year maintenance clause to ensure durability and quality. "This will be the biggest road construction work taken up in the history of Punjab. It will improve mobility and boost rural infrastructure," said CM Mann, emphasising the importance of high-quality, safe roads.
The plan also includes a unique system where contractors will be paid only after the local communities approve the work, ensuring accountability and satisfaction. The project follows the ongoing construction of 19,373 km of rural link roads at Rs 4,092 crore.
