Nearly two months after scrapping its land pooling policy, the Punjab government has notified a social impact assessment (SIA) for acquiring 3,553 acres in Blocks E to J of the Aerotropolis project in Mohali.
The move revives the stalled expansion plan of Aerocity near the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, spread along the Zirakpur-Banur road. The project, approved in June 2022, will include 8,600 residential plots (100–2,000 sq. yards), commercial, and institutional zones. Land acquisition will follow the Central Land Acquisition Act of 2013.
GMADA recently floated tenders worth Rs 509-crore for development in Blocks B, C, and D, while Block A remains entangled in the Rs 140 cr guava orchard scam. Landowners in the newly assessed blocks may opt for the 2021 pooling policy benefits if they wish. The acquisition is expected to be completed by year-end, with land identified across several villages. Earlier plans to acquire 2,600 acres across other sectors were paused due to the withdrawn policy.
