Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) will extend financial assistance worth Rs 6,890 crore to Tamil Nadu's power generation and transmission utilities.
On 28 January, 2017, the company signed a loan agreement with Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) and Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation (TANTRANSCO) for implementation of an 800 MW supercritical thermal power plant, renovation and modernisation of the existing thermal power plants, and construction of new 765 kV and 400 kV substations in and around Chennai.
The company will also extend financial assistance to the upcoming Udangudi super critical thermal power project and renewable energy, energy conservation, smart grid and automation power projects in the state.
The financial assistance will ensure timely implementation of the generation and transmission projects in the state.
