Reliance Industries has signed an agreement to invest alongside Brookfield Infrastructure and Digital Realty in their Indian SPVs set up for developing data centre across the country.
By forging the new alliance, BAM Digital Realty, the existing joint venture (JV) between Brookfield Infrastructure and Digital Realty, will enable Reliance Industries to hold a 33.33 percent stake. The JV will be branded as ‘Digital Connexion: A Brookfield, Jio and Digital Realty Company’.
The platform is currently developing data centres in Mumbai and Chennai, wherein its first 20 MW greenfield data centre on a 100 MW campus in Chennai is expected to be completed by end-2023. The alliance recently announced the acquisition of 2.15 acres of land in Mumbai, to build a 40 MW data centre. These will be connected to critical terrestrial connectivity infrastructure, as well as undersea cables, to act as hubs for Indian companies, as well as gateways into the country for multinational companies.
The JV will offer cloud and colocation services, and plug-and-play solutions for local enterprises, small and medium business, and the startups as they move resources to the cloud and off-premise. This will contribute to their digital transformation, making them more competitive and efficient.
The platform will leverage Digital Realty’s data centre platform design and operating procedures, access to global customers, Brookfield’s expertise in the Indian infrastructure market, and Jio’s connectivity and data ecosystem and a large existing client base.
