Reliance Industries is planning to set
up a 4,000 MW of gas-based power plants at multiple locations at an investment
of Rs.10,000 crore, in addition to a four million tpa fertiliser plant at
Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.
The proposed power plants will use gas
from the company's fields off India's east coast. Around 1,000 MW capacity will
come up at Jamnagar in Gujarat, where RIL is building a 27 million tpa refinery
alongside its existing 33 million tpa refinery. Besides Jamnagar, around 3,000
MW capacity will come up at the two special economic zones in Maharashtra and
Haryana.
Power from the plants is also likely
to be sold to group company Reliance Retail to light up its stores.
