Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy has confirmed that the Railway Manufacturing Unit (RMU) coming up in Warangal is progressing as planned and is slated for full completion next year.
Calling it a “game-changing project for the region,” the Minister noted that construction across the 160-acre facility is moving ahead with both speed and scale. The first phase, involving an investment of Rs 521 crore, is adopting sustainable building practices and advanced technologies to support the Centre’s vision for a modern, eco-friendly railway ecosystem. The RMU is being equipped with high-end, technology-driven machinery and will initially manufacture state-of-the-art mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) rakes of 16–20 cars, expected to boost short- and medium-distance rail travel nationwide.
Besides expanding rolling stock capacity, the project is poised to generate significant employment for local youth and support ancillary industries. Earlier in the day, Minister Reddy arrived via the Vande Bharat Express and reviewed Central initiatives spanning tourism, the proposed Warangal Airport, and the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park.
