A consortium of Ramkrishna Forgings and Titagarh Wagons has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for setting up a manufacturing plant, with an assured offtake of 80,000 wheels per annum for the next 20 years.
The joint venture (JV) had made a bid of Rs 12,226 crore for the contract, which mandates a completion time of 36 months.
The Ministry of Railways had floated the tender in September 2022.
The JV will combine resources and strong technical and execution capabilities to produce world-class products.
The increased production capacity of forged wheels will fulfil the requirements of semi-high-speed and high-speed trains in the country, as more than 400 Vande Bharat trains are planned to be rolled out across the country.
