RasGas of Qatar is likely to supply
LNG to the reviving Dabhol power project in Maharashtra. However, supplies are
expected to begin only by mid-2007, which means that the restart of the power
plant scheduled for the third quarter of 2006 will be possible only through
stored naphtha lying with the power plant.
RasGas is slated to supply 2.5 million
tpa of LNG to Petronet LNG's Kochi terminal from 2009 onwards. However, this
date is being advanced to mid-2007 so as to supply fuel to the Dabhol power
project. Petronet LNG's Kochi terminal will be ready only by late-2008, enabling
a diversion of contracted LNG to the Dabhol power project. This would also
provide time to the new owners of the Dabhol power project, Ratnagiri Gas &
Power Pvt Ltd, to enter into long term arrangements with other suppliers.
