The Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved a revised cost estimate of approx. Rs 700 crore for the construction of the two-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra, linking Majuli with Jorhat.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the development, and infomed that the tendering process would commence soon, to enable the resumption of construction.
The Majuli-Jorhat bridge aims to enhance accessibility to Majuli, the world’s largest river island, and improve its integration with the mainland. It will provide a vital all-weather road link, reducing reliance on ferry services and facilitating safer, faster travel for residents and tourists.
The project had encountered delays due to cost escalations and technical revisions, but the latest approval signals a renewed commitment to its completion.
