Union Minister Ajay Tamta has announced that Rs 12,000 crore worth of highway projects are currently underway in Manipur to improve the state's infrastructure.
As of now, 747 km of roads have been upgraded and blacktopped, with the conversion of several single-lane roads to two-lane. The remaining 332 km is set to be completed by FY27. The projects, managed by NHIDCL and the state PWD, include 51 packages and are aimed at boosting regional connectivity. Challenges like land acquisition and forest clearance have delayed 35 project packages. Notably, the Imphal-Jiribam highway, a crucial route for the state, is expected to be fully upgraded by the end of the financial year.
Minister Tamta also highlighted ongoing projects like the Churachandpur-Tipaimukh and India-Myanmar border roads, reinforcing the government's commitment to enhancing infrastructure and economic growth in the region.
