A comprehensive plan has been finalised to modernise and expand the Godavari riverfront areas in anticipation of the 2027 Godavari Pushkarams.
The focus is on enhancing pilgrim convenience, safety, and infrastructure., wherein the plan includes widening major stretches of the riverbank and modernising ghats and bathing points suitable for devotees. Rajamahendravaram Municipal Commissioner Rahul Meena reviewed the proposal, which allocates Rs 1,854.24 crore for Rajamahendravaram, Rs 450 crore for Kovvur, and Rs 105 crore for Nidadavolu Municipality. Chief Minister Chandrababu is expected to review the project by the end of the month.
Key initiatives include upgrading drinking water infrastructure with Rs 121.91 crore for pipeline improvements, modernising 17 ghats with Rs 89.88 crore, and deploying AI-based surveillance technology for enhanced safety. Additionally, Rs 212.20 crore has been allocated for road modernization and traffic regulation, while Rs 175.35 crore will be used for urban flood control projects.
