Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on 16 July, 2025, seeking Rs 538 crore for establishing stadiums across the state, and Rs 25 crore for hosting the Khelo India Martial Arts Games this year.
The CM also requested the speedy completion of Khelo India infrastructure projects underway in Tirupati, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, and Narasaraopeta. An official statement highlighted the push to develop a robust sports ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh under the state’s 2024-29 sports policy. He proposed the establishment of an international-standard badminton training centre and a national aquatic sports hub in Amaravati, along with water sports training centres along the Krishna River.
The state has submitted proposals for National Centres of Excellence at Nagarjuna University and Kakinada. He also requested Rs 27 crore for upgrading Vijayawada’s Indira Gandhi Stadium, Rs 170 crore for a multi-sport complex at BR Stadium in Guntur, and Rs 341 crore for sports infrastructure across the state. He further sought more Khelo India centres and a Sports Authority of India training centre in Tirupati and Rayalaseema.
