Mussoorie, known as the 'Queen of the Hills', is poised to become more accessible with the construction of a Rs 6,100 crore elevated road on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.
The 26 km stretch in Dehradun is expected to ease traffic congestion in the city and allow travelers to reach Mussoorie from Delhi in just four hours by personal vehicle. The project involves land acquisition in 26 localities, with 2,614 houses—mostly along the Rispana and Bindal riverbanks, set to be demolished.
Vice-Chairman of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), Banshidhar Tiwari, confirmed the ongoing preparations. The land acquisition process has begun, with affected houses marked with red signs and a social impact survey scheduled for completion within 15 days. Amonng the options for affected landowners—monetary compensation or land-for-land, the administration believes only financial compensation will be offered, as no official proposal or inspected land bank exists yet.
The district administration is preparing to compensate displaced residents monetarily while moving forward with the project.
