The Rs 7,000 crore Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (HCITI) initiative remains largely on paper, as progress of nearly 40 major infrastructure projects—including flyovers, underpasses, and road-widening, has been minimal, even seven months after their declaration.
While foundation stones have been laid at select locations like Ameenpur, actual construction has yet to begin, even after tendering processes were completed. Several of these projects were sanctioned years ago under the earlier Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP). For example, six flyovers and underpasses planned around Jubilee Hills and KBR Park, estimated at over Rs 1,200 crore, require the acquisition of 307 properties, but not a single acquisition has occurred.
The GHMC had offered Rs 1.84 lakh per square yard—double the government rate of Rs 92,000, for land acquisition. Plans also include widening the 6.5-km stretch from Virinchi Hospital to Jubilee Hills Checkpost via KBR, expanding road widths from 50–100 ft. to 100–120 ft. in bottleneck zones. Despite receiving Rs 2,600 crore in recent financial aid, GHMC officials cite land acquisition hurdles as the main cause for delays. Comprehensive traffic studies have informed upcoming infrastructure strategies under the HCITI plan.
