SABMiller India plans to build a new brewery in Karnataka in the next two
years.
The company is yet to finalise the site and the investment involved in the
project. The expansion in Karnataka will entail the relocation of the existing
brewery at Bangalore. The new brewery will help reduce transportation costs and
interstate excise duties it currently incurs by supplying from the Puducherry
brewery.
In the past five years the company has invested $600 million (approx Rs 2,790
crore) in modernising and expanding its brewery network. In 2009, the company
commissioned a brownfield plant in Haryana.
