The JV of SAIL-SCI is likely to set up a transloading facility in coast of
the Bay of Bengal for handling dry bulk cargoes.
The Sandheads, the mouth of the Hooghly river, has been identified as the
location for starting the operation as early as possible. This apart, the
alternative location at Kanika Sands, an island off the Orissa coast, could be
considered at a later stage.
Once completed, the facility will be able to handle about six million tpa of
coking coal imports.
