Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has planned to further raise the capacity of its Bokaro steel plant by another 10 million tpa.
SAIL, which is currently executing Bokaro plant's capacity addition to 5.7 million tonnes, will make an investment of Rs 60,000 crore for the 10 million tpa capacity expansion in Phase-II.
SAIL has set a target of achieving 50 million tpa crude steel production capacity by 2025.
As of now, SAIL has around 14 million tpa hot metal capacity. The current phase of the ongoing expansion, with an investment of Rs 72,000 crore, will take this capacity upto 24 million tpa.
The additional 26 million tpa capacity creation will need around Rs 1.7 lakh crore in Phase-II.
SAIL is preparing a roadmap for expansions in other plants in the next phase of expansion. The proposed investment at the Bokaro steel plant is the highest among five integrated steel mills where the company has planned expansion.
