Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, HD Kumaraswamy, has announced that the Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant (VISPL) will undergo a major revival at an estimated cost of Rs 4,000 crore.
As part of the first phase of this long-term restoration plan, two specialised companies have been engaged to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) focusing on technological upgrades and operational improvements. The Minister emphasised that the DPR will be designed to ensure that the plant can function efficiently for the next 40 years, signalling a strategic push to modernise one of India’s historic steel units.
The Union Minister noted that the revival will be executed in multiple phases and highlighted strong central support for the initiative. He also mentioned that he would revisit the site in January–February, adding that the DPR for the development of three sectors in the first phase is already in progress.
