SAIL's iron ore mine at Gua in Jharkhand may reopen soon.
The company had stopped extraction at Gua in June 2011 in the absence of environment and forest clearance. The MoEF had made Gua's clearance conditional on Jharkhand placing a detailed report on Saranda forest division where Gua mines are located. Now, the state government is likely to submit a report based on wildlife and biodiversity management of Saranda along with its recommendation to the MoEF for final permission for restarting operation at Gua.
Gua mines, among the oldest mechanised facilities of SAIL, produces 2.4 million tpa, which is being now expanded to 10 million tonne.
