Sabarimala road development project in
Kerala is expected to be launched in the current financial year (April
2008-March 2009), with an investment of Rs.265 crore. The project will be
implemented in two phases with a five-year maintenance contract.
The first phase of the project will
involve development of a total of 92 km on the Mannarakulanji-Plappally-Pampa
stretch and on the Erumely-Kanamala-Elavumkal road. A new bridge will be
constructed parallel to the causeway at Kanamala, at a cost of Rs.4.70 crore, as
part of the first phase.
The second phase envisages development
of Thiruvalla-Kozhencherry-Pathanamthitta road, Adoor-Pathanamthitta-Mylapra
road, Pandalam-Kadakkad-Kaipattoor road, Kozhencherry-Ranni road,
Mandirampady-Vadasserikkara road, Chittar-Vadasserikkara road,
Mukkada-Edamon-Athikkayam- Poovathumoodu road, Ranni-Chethomkara-Athikkayam
road, Cherukolpuha-Ranni road, Placherry-Mukkada road, Erumely-Mukkada road and
Thenmala-Kulathuppuzha road.
It is learnt that, the development of
various other link roads leading to the major Sabarimala roads will be
undertaken later.
