Samsung Electronics is evaluating the prospects of making India a hub for manufacturing 5G equipment.
The South Korean conglomerate is considering India alongside Vietnam for its plans to find an alternative to China for expanding production. However, the plan is still at an early stage and is likely to take time to materialize.
The company sees this as part of a larger opportunity, wherein the Indian market has the potential not only for 5G but also for higher generation of gear. Samsung is mulling the production of telecom gear, as it has been successfully operating facilities for various consumer electronics products, including smartphone in India.
Moreover, as an established supplier, incentives offered by the Indian government to promote manufacturing of telecom gear locally could further support Samsung’s expansion plans.
