Consumer electronics brand Sansui, owned by Sansui Acoustics Research Corporation is re-entering the Indian market in partnership with the Jaina Group, the manufacturer of Karbonn mobile phones.
The company is planning to make India one of its global production hubs. Jaina Group, which has 24-years licence for the Sansui brand for India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka markets, will make an investment to the tune of around Rs 500 crore for a plant near Gurugram, Haryana.
The company will manufacture smart televisions and appliances such as washing machines, refrigerators and airconditioners. Another Rs 500 crore will be invested in research and development (R&D) and other related investments.
The company plans to make investment worth Rs 1,000 crore in Indian operations in the next three years and is eyeing a turnover of Rs 3,500 crore for Sansui brand in India by 2021-22.
The investment will be funded through debt and internal accruals. The plant will come over 30 acre of land parcel and will be operational by June 2020. The new plant will create direct employment for around 4,000 people, once it reaches its full capacity.
The new unit will serve as a key manufacturing hub for Sansui in South East Asia. The range of products manufactured will be available online with channel partner Flipkart, while the Jaina Group also has plans to make the range available at over 6,000 retail stores.
Apart from this the company is also in talks to open exclusive Sansui brand retail stores.
